3/14/10 – My new business venture
You probably have noticed that I have been having a lot of jewelry parties over the last year. I attended my first Premier Designs Jewelry party almost a year ago. I wasn’t really into it as I just don’t wear jewerly very often. Plus, I really didn’t have money to be buying stuff I didn’t really wear. I liked one piece and it just so happened that they were giving it away if you booked a party. So, I did.
Before my own party, I attended two more parties to support the friends who also booked parties. I continued to see more combinations of ways the jewelry could be worn and I started a wish list of all the stuff I wanted to buy.
When it finally came time for my party, I had pretty much learned a lot of the names of the jewelry peices and memorized Christine’s schpeel. She said I should really be selling this stuff myself. I just laughed it off because if you know me, you know how busy I am with Roxie and the dive club. Where on earth would I find time to do that? Plus, I’m not really a sales person.
At my first party, I earned over $150 in free jewerly and got a couple of people to book parties. I attended those parties in support of them and ended up booking two more parties for myself. One when the fall catalog came out and another when the spring catalog came out. At both of those parties (both with low attendance), I earned another $150 and $300 more in free jewelry. I have so much free jewelry, that I am out of room on my jewelry rack.
After my last party, I started thinking that I probably could sell this stuff, if I could find the time. Time, that is definitely an issue. I have spent the majority of the last year volunteering in a variety of ways for the Blue Weimaraner Club of America and Dolphin Divers of Sacramento as well as field training and hunting with Roxie, shooting, and camping… not to mention the ongoing work on my house. Doing a lot of these things is expensive and finding the money to continue doing them is getting harder. I started thinking of ways that I can turn my hobbies into money making ventures and have recently began offer my services. But those things are things that I already do and know how to do. How could I incorporate a jewelry business with Premier Designs into my already busy life? The more I thought about it, the more I realized that I needed to find the time.
So, I’ve made the decision to become an official Jeweler with Premier Designs. I have decided to work on time management so that I can work on my volunteer work as well as do something to make some extra income for myself.
I’m hoping that you, my friends and family will support me through my new business venture. How can you do that? Well, let me tell you the ways:
- Attend my Training Party – I will be having a training party at the end of April (exact date TBD but will either be 4/18 or 4/25). By coming to my training party, you will be my first audience. I will be able to showcase my jewelry, try out my schpeel and by purchasing an item or two, be able to earn both hostess rewards (free jewelry to add to my display) and consultant (commission to pay for my business start up fees).
- Host a Party – I know that for a lot of people, money is tight. You just don’t have the money to spend on frivolous stuff like jewelry. I get it. Really I do. Afterall, that’s why I hosted so many parties myself! So, one way to treat yourself to some pretty frilly things without having to spend very much is to host a party. Plus, by doing so you will greatly help me get my business going. A typical party retails at $400, this means you would get $120 in free jewelry. Don’t think you have a lot of friends who will come? That’s ok. My last party had ONE person show up and the party before that, THREE people. It doesn’t take a lot to have a successful party because a lot of times, those who can’t come may still order via the catalog.
- DO BOTH! – If you are feeling super helpful, you can attend my training party AND host a party! This would be really great and I will love you forever! Ok, I’ll probably love your forever anyway but I’ll be super happy about it
. - Place a Catalog Order - Can’t come to my training party and don’t want to/can’t host a party but still want to help? You can still help me get my business started by placing an order via a catalog that I can send to you.
- Tell Your Friends – Maybe you have a friend or two who would be interested in buying some jewelry or hosting a party? Pass this message on to them, invite them to my training party, recommend they host a party.
By doing one (or more) of these five things, you can do a lot to help me get my business started. If I can get 9 people to host a party by June 9th then I will earn a huge chunk of the entire jewelry collection for my display. The display is the single most important accessory to a jeweler’s business. To see, touch and feel the jewelry and match it up with different pieces and outfits, is essential and…it’s what got me hooked.
If you have seen me lately, I am rarely without some piece of my new jewelry. I LOVE IT! I feel so much more confident in my daily life and it has brought new life to my wardrobe. It has, however had some adverse effects… it’s made me want to buy MORE clothes to make new combinations of outfits!
I have created a Facebook Fanpage so be sure to become a fan so you are kept up to date on special promotions for jewelry, hostesses, new designs, new catalogs… anything you can think of!
I have started a photo album of all the jewelry combinations I come up with. As soon as I can figure out how to take decent pictures of myself I’ll add more :) stay tuned for more additions…
Thank you in advance for your support with my new business venture. I hope to see you at a party soon.
