Weim Walk, Pt. Isabel
Today was Roxie’s first Weim Walk with the San Francisco Bay Weimaraner Club. We went to Pt. Isabel in Richmond where she got to play with other Weims, other dogs and see the bay for the first time. Roxie did GREAT! I was a little concerned how she would do off leash and whether she would COME when called. I had only allowed her off leash once before but we were with a small group and were in one spot, not on a trail with a TON of other dogs.
We were running a little late so we had to run to catch up to everyone. I kept her on leash for that. Once we found them, all the other Weims rushed over to greet her. She does really well with that and allowed them to do their sniffing. While we were still standing around. I called her a couple of times and when she came, I gave her lots of praise and a treat. Once we started to move again, she stayed with the group and was constantly looking back for me and would always come when called. Well, except for 2 times when she was busy following another dog, when she realized how far she had gotten she came running back. When she started to get a little tired, she stayed near me and walked with me. I was so proud of her!!
It definitely helps (for me) when she has a pack of dogs to stay and keep up with it allowed her to run around, play with dogs without getting too far away since the other Weims were also being called back to where I was, with the other owners. She even followed the other dogs down to the water and got her feet wet. We have taken her to the river a couple of time, but she wasn’t real interested in the water and when we got her in, she was happy to get out. No actual swimming yet.
After the walk, she went in and got herself a bath to clean up and then went to the little café and sat with Sandra and Taria for some lunch. She did well and just sat and waited. Below is a little slideshow of today’s day out as well as a couple of little video\’s.
