As you all know, we have been searching for a Weimaraner to rescue. Our search wasn’t going so well because of our specific needs of a young blue female. We expanded our search to include puppies and started looking for breeders. We found a couple of them and one of them (Liz) was expecting a litter in early April. She lives in Lakeport so we decided to go meet her and her dogs in anticipation of adopting a puppy from her.On the way there, we received a call from the rescue notifying us of a 1 yr old blue female out of Reno that was being release by their owners. We believe the ultimate reason is that she didn’t hunt therefore they weren’t “into her” and she wasn’t given enough attention and exercise which caused her to be a bit destructive. After talking to the rescue coordinator, we found out that “Alli” was from Liz’s 2006 litter! What a coincidence!
Once we arrived at Liz’s house. We were able to talk to her about her past and upcoming litters as well as talk about Alli specifically. The dog was due to be returned to her once evaluated by the rescue. We told her that we were interested in fostering her and possibly adopting her.
So as of this morning, Alli was brought to us from Reno.Tate stayed home from work for a couple of hours in order to meet Alli and Arlene the rescue coordinator. We went for a walk prior to introducing her to the house and Cheeto. She is a very anxious and excited doggie. She wanted to sniff all over the place. We kept control over her.I have already walked her twice today and now she is resting quietly beside me.She and Cheeto are the only issue I have right now.She gets excited when she sees him and he just wants to hiss and eventually runs, causing her to want to chase. We will have to keep a close eye on the two to be sure that Cheeto doesn’t end up being lunch.
Tate & I have decided that we didn’t really care for the name Alli so we “adjusted” it slightly to be Cali. Her previous owners never sent in her registration paperwork so if we decide to keep her, her full registered name will be “Fairhaven’s Blue California Raynbow”, which includes the breeder’s name (Fairhaven), her father’s name (Blue) and her mother’s name (Rayn).
We will be enrolling Cali in obedience classes as well as taking her to the vet for a check up. Cali and below is a little video of Cali and Tate playing (if link to video isn’t working, try again later, it’s processing):
