Day #1
Well, day #1 is over. Tate had to go to work shortly after Cali arrived so it was just us girls yesterday. For the most part it went really well. We walked a few times during the day and met all the neighbors. We have learned to \”master the walk\” and we have nice walks together. I gave her a bath to clean her up and then we played in the yard. Later, relaxed together and watched TV. She followed me all over the house and sat/layed by me whenever possible. She has learned to use the doggie door and will go out when she needs to potty. She has already started barking at people outside and people coming to the door. She even barked at the barking dogs on TV.
Cali and Cheeto are learning to live with each other. It will definately take some time. Cheeto spent most of the day under the bed. Once he came out, they would just stare at each other. At some point they will sit or lay down while staring at each other. It seems that Cali wants to play while Cheeto wants nothing to do with her. So Cheeto will hiss and spit and then Cali gets excited, causing Cheeto to run and Cali to chase. You\’ll see in the picture above that Cali has discovered Cheeto\’s bed. It didn\’t seem to matter that it was a bit too small for her. I quickly (after taking the picture) got her out of the bed and onto her own. Later in the evening, Cheeto and Cali were both in the living room. Cali was laying down on one side of her bed (not on it) and Cheeto was sitting on the other side of it. After about 10 mintes of staring at each other, Cheeto decided he was done and wanted to leave the room. But he didn\’t just get up and leave, he \”tip toed\” out of the room. Yes, I said tip toed. Close your eyes and imagine this fat orange cat stepping ever so quietly and slowly out of the room. It was the funniest thing I saw all day. Cheeto made it past Cali and then walked quickly to his room. I wish I had my camera with me at that moment.
Bedtime was a bit tougher. While we thought Cali was crate trained, she didn\’t want to go to bed in it. She wanted to be with me. I put her in it anyway and listen to her whine and cry for an hour before finally letting her out and bringing her bed in next to me. She slept peacefully the rest of the night. I know, shame on me for letting her win. We will try again tonight. We really want her trained so that she can go to work with Tate. If not, then at lease so we can let the cat have some peace.
I stayed home this morning until Tate came home from work. Today it\’s their turn to bond. I think Cali thought I was the only parent in the house since Tate was only with her for an hour yesterday. So far, I think they are doing just fine. Tate has to work again tomorrow so we will be deciding on whether Cali will stay home in her crate or if she will go to work with Tate.
Thanks to everyone for your comments. I will continue to update this Blog as things progress. I don\’t want to send out a notice everyday so feel free to check it out at your leisure. I will also be adding more pictures often so feel free to check those out too. Here is the link in case you deleted it Cali Pics.
