Well I’m sure you all have been waiting anxiously to hear how Roxie did on her hunt tests last weekend… well, unfortunately two days before the test, she went into heat. They do not allow dogs in heat to compete so we had to withdraw from the test :(. In addition to this current misfortune, there aren’t any more hunt tests in 2009. The positive side of this is that we will have this hunting season to get Roxie out for some real life hunting experience and work on her steadiness in a more natural situation rather than just in training.
As of now, she is about half way through her cycle. For those want to know about whether or not she will be bred this time around, the answer is no. Liz is still looking for the perfect mate (we humans know that’s not easy to find) that has both excellent conformation and hunting ability in order to capitalize on Roxie’s drive as well as improve her looks. So we are now looking to breed on her NEXT cycle which should be early next summer somewhere around May. By then she should have her Senior Hunter title.
As for me, I will be working on MY field training next weekend. I will be participating in a Women’s Hunter Camp put on by California Waterfowl Association. It is a two day camp where we take the hunter safety course, get our license, take some shooting lessons, then on Sunday we are off for a pheasant shoot. The nice thing about this camp is that it’s all about me and my training. I will be able to let someones deal with the dogs and I can focus on me. Although, I’m curious to see how these dogs are trained and I bet that I will be missing Roxie within 10 minutes of hunting!
In general life update, I am currently working with the bank to be able to keep the house. They are working to reduce the interest rates so I can afford the payments on my own. The house still needs a lot of work on it as it was never finished from the master bedroom/bath extension or the most recent garage extension. So far it looks good that I will be able to keep the house and I look forward to someday finishing all of the work.
Well, that’s all for now! I hope you all have a great week!
