Day #2
Well, Cali is doing good. She got up 0530 with me this am so that I could come to work early. Our morning walk went well. Then we loaded everything up, crate and all, and were off to work. She seems to do well in the truck. Although her balance does seem to be off. She can\’t stand in the truck for long, so she lays down and rests. When we got here to work we went for a quick walk for her to get used to the new area. Then in to meet my co-workers, which went well. She was doing good until she went to follow me down the stairs to go potty and stumbled. She tore the skin on her right rear leg in a couple of places. I cleaned it and dressed it. Seems to be okay she is favoring it mostly after rest but does walk on it. I moved her Vet appt to tomorrow so we can get it checked too. For most of the day she has just wanted to lay around and sleep, very unlike a weim from my memory. She is getting used to the crate easily. Went out on a call for about 2 hours today and she tolerated the crate well. Some of the things that have been mentioned are noticable to me now, the unsteady gait, the goopy left eye, dirt in the ears & lethergy. None of it really bothers me too much. I am concerned about the lethergy and the unstedy gait and will definitely be bringing it to the vets attention tomorrow. In all we are very happy to have Cali in our home and look forward to a long time with her. We will be sure to keep you informed and let you know what the vet finds/says. –Tate
In addition to this, I wanted to say what a good girl she is when meeting people whether it be on the street or inside. Once she greets them and gets some pats and sniffs, she will usually sit or lay down in the middle of everyone. Our Winston NEVER did this, he constantly wanted attention and would let you know it. This could perhaps be attributed to whatever is causing the lethargy (if there is something wrong). Also, I noticed he nose has been awfully dry. -Renee
Day #3
Well here it is day three and we just got back from the vet. Things did not go very well. Cali is very afraid of the vet. All was good until they tried to take her temp. After that she just tried to hide behind me on the bench sit. We talked about her past problems but that was quickly put aside when the vet was able to get a look at her rear leg. Seems not only did she tear the skin in 2 places but she tore her achilles tendon. They took her in the back for x-rays, labs and a splint. Then came the news, she needs surgery to repair the tendon. It is not an option, it must be done. So I brought Cali home for the night and will take her back first thing in the am for her surgery. Once she has recovered from this we will start over with the other ongoing issues.
