Yes, this is what it’s all about. Many of you have asked why I chose to do field training with Roxie and why I decided to hunt. This is it. We needed to earn a title in something and weren’t sure what. We thought about obedience, rally and agility. We didn’t even consider hunting… that is until I saw a dog in the field point a bird. It was a beautiful sight and I decided right then, I wanted to see Roxie do that. So for the last two years, I have spent countless hours with her in the field for this… This beautiful point.
Today, we were training and we came up on a bird that had previously flown away. As I walked up to flush the bird, this is what I saw. I just had to stop, pull out the camera and take a picture. Afterall, she needs to learn patience, right?
We were training yesterday as well and was fortunate to have someone video the session (thanks Michael). Here is the video from 1.30.10:
We have been working every weekend for the last month in order to prepare for the upcoming hunt test where she will test for Senior Hunter. You might recall that she tried last spring but failed miserably. We worked all summer and now this winter and think she is just about ready. We just need to learn all the rules, tips and tricks for passing the test. Liz and I have been out almost every weekend with Matt Bidou from our local Weim Club (who is also hosting the upcoming test) and a few others working birds and working on steadiness. Some days are great, others not so good. We just have to keep practicing. We have 2 weeks to go.
In other news… I have been involved with the Bad Ass Girls Club and last Friday we were on Good Day Sacramento. We were at Auburn Trap Club teaching the reporter how to shoot. Imagine, 12 women in a line with shotguns. It’s a beautiful thing. We are supposed to be getting a DVD with the segment on it as well as photos taken by a local photographer. I’ll be sure to post those as soon as I get them.
Now that the holidays are over (and when the rain stops and after this hunt test) it will be time to get back to work on the house. There’s lots to do and only a few more months before the next (final) inspection. So all you handy folks out there, check your schedules, I’m gonna need ya!
Well that’s all for now. Keep your ears open for news on the hunt test.
Very cool video. Roxy is doing awesome!!! I look forward to hunting with you and Roxy someday!!!!
Hugs,
STEVE
